Metallurgy

Program objective and conception

The objective of the program leading to the Master’s degree in Engineering and Technology is to prepare highly qualified specialists in the field of agglomeration, blast furnace and steelmaking production, who will be able to work creatively in the field of research and metallurgical process modeling, advanced foundry metallurgy and technology improvement of castings production. The basis of this program is computer modeling methodology of iron and steel production processes, and the ability to use it as a tooling for scientific and applied tasks solution of radical enhancement of the efficiency of existing processing, as well as the development of new engineering processes. The distinctive feature of the program leading to the Master’s degree in Engineering and Technology is a creative participation of graduates in the development of modern software systems of computer-aided design and simulation processes of metallurgic production.

As a graduate of Master's Degree Program in Metallurgy, you will be prepared to demonstrate the ability to:

  • formulate and solve problems arising in the course of research and teaching activities and requiring deepen professional knowledge,
  • modify existing and develop new methods of research, including computer models and mathematical modeling methods,
  • evaluate the scientific and engineering solutions from the standpoint of achieving product quality, resource conservation and environmental protection.

A graduate is prepared for activities, which require extend fundamental and training preparation, involving research and research-production work experience.

Program Structure

The master's degree program consists of 4 semesters:

  • four core subjects in the first semester;
  • three modules in the 2 and 3semesters;
  • research activity in the last semester.

Study conditions

The course lasts two years. Full-time education.

The curriculum includes a number of specialized disciplines, forming the professional qualifications of a graduate in the field of computer analysis and of metallurgical processes and technologies optimization: Applied Thermodynamics and Kinetics of Metallurgical Processes; Organization and Mathematical Planning of Experiment; Innovation Management; Manufacturing Process Modeling and Optimization; Information Technology in Metallurgy; Iron Production Processing Theory; Theory of Smelting and Steel Ladle Processing.

In addition to enumerated courses the program focuses on teaching the modern concepts of the regularities of cast iron and steel quality formation on the basis of the physical and mathematical models definition for the set of phenomena, taking place in the blast furnace and steelmaking units, as well as the methodology of processes mathematical modeling, occurring in the secondary treatment units and cast iron steel.

Admission Requirements

Applicants to a Master's Degree in Materials Science program should hold a Bachelor's degree in a related subject with good results.

Master's entrance examination is carried out in written form.
