With all NMSTU’s extensive international reach, it was the first time the University received a cooperation proposal from Spain.
On March 29, NMSTU saw a visit of the Honorary Consul of Spain in the Ural Federal District. The Consul met with First Vice Rector - Vice Rector for Research and Innovation Mikhail Chukin, and they discussed such issues as cooperation in higher education, signing of agreements between NMSTU and Spanish universities that would enable academic mobility, joint research, and participation in international grant competitions. After an introduction of the University’s educational programmes and research projects, the Consul offered a number of Spanish universities for potential cooperation.
The Consul also met with the University staff, and the discussions touched upon potential cooperation in such areas as linguistics, history, architecture and art. A special attention was given to the Spanish language as one of the academic subjects. Being one of the most popular languages in the world, Spanish seems to be gaining popularity with NMSTU students.
Aleksey Korchunov, Vice Rector for International Affairs, expressed his great pleasure at the opportunity to cooperate with Spanish universities and shared that they had a lot of ideas, one of which would be to launch a Spanish summer school for Russian students who are interested to learn Spanish and a Russian summer school for Spanish students.
