On June 5th, NMSTU saw an opening plenary of the 3rd International Youth Conference Magnitogorsk Rolling Practice 2018 (Innovative Metal Forming Processes: Fundamental Issues of Science and Production). Similar to the previous two conferences, the current conference is sponsored by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research.
NMSTU’s rector Mikhail Chukin opened the meeting by greeting its participants and saying to them how greatly he appreciated their participation in this extremely important forum with a focus on young researchers.
In his welcoming speech Aleksey Korchunov, vice rector for international affairs and chairperson of the organizing committee, gave a brief overview of the conference agenda and introduced the speakers. In spite of the fact that both Russian and English were the official languages of the forum, English was the prevailing language of the plenary.
Scientists from Italy, India and NMSTU presented their reports. Puneet Tandon from the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, spoke about the advanced metal forming technique of incremental sheet forming, which aroused a genuine interest of the listening public. Not less riveting was a report presented by Manuele Dabala from the University of Padua in Italy who told about the thermomechanical treatment for advanced high strength and ultra high strength steels. Doctor Marina Polyakova from NMSTU presented the results of the research that looked at the recent developments in carbon wire production. The plenary was followed by a photo session in front of the Armour Bureau monument in the University Garden. The afternoon agenda included a presentation of the International Laboratory Mechanics of Gradient Nanomaterials, unique in the world.
