Quantitative linguistics and new information technologies
The discipline is read for second-year students of a master course (3 semester). The total working intensiveness amounts to 108 academic hours including class work (lectures and seminars) - 26 hours, self-instruction work – 46 hours, revision before an exam – 36 hours). ECTS equals 3. Upon mastering the given discipline students are to take an exam.
The main goal of the discipline is to provide students with the skills necessary to build up personal electronic databases and dictionaries in various fields of professional translation in the course of intercultural communication. Apart from practical skills students acquire profound knowledge in carrying out linguistic analysis of written texts and aural speech units.
While mastering the academic discipline Quantitative Linguistics and New Information Technologies students get to know the basic notions of development and implementation of computer programs for successful translation process in general. What is more, students are taught to apply the received theoretical knowledge in the course of practical translation taking into consideration all significant nuances of contemporary translation process.
Quantitative Linguistics and New Information Technologies implies studying types, methods and techniques of computer text analysis. Students are taught to make practical use of interaction technologies in order to achieve successful results in the course of translation as it is.
