Institute of Elite Programs and Open Education
With the Institute of Extramural Studies, an academic year is divided into semesters in the course of which students both work and do a self-study, including tests and term papers. The academic year also includes examination periods which generally last for 40 to 50 days (the duration depends on the course) and during which students are entitled for a leave of absence.
The total duration of study is 5.5 to 6 years for Specialist degree students; 5 years for Bachelor’s degree students; 4 years for students of accelerated educational programmes; 3.5 to 6 years for students going for the second degree of higher education (the duration depends on the previous course).
The majority of students who study at the Institute of Extramural Studies have a job in the same area as the chosen course of study. That is why most of them are familiar with the equipment and technology applied. For this reason extramural courses include less classroom hours than intramural programmes. Extramural students who are in their final years of study are eligible to take managerial and white-collar jobs.
The graduates are awarded diplomas certifying the same disciplines and the same numbers of credits as the ones awarded to graduates of intramural courses.
