Course modules (units, topics):

The course consists of the following units and topics:

1. Experiment theory.

Topics. Introduction. Aims, objectives and methods of research. Theoretical framework of experiment planning and engineering analysis. Fundamentals of the theory of experiment planning, overall research sequence.

2. Active experiment.

Topics: Active experiment, complete factorial experiment: attractions, downsides, and applications. Building and analysis of the first-order mathematical model. Fractional factorial experiment: attractions, downsides, and applications. Second-order experiment plans; properties of experiment plans. Experimental methods of solving optimization problems.

3. Passive experiment.

Topics: Passive experiment: building and analysis of a mathematical model; applications of a passive experiment. Methods of expert assessment. Physical modeling basics. Assessment of accuracy and validity of research results.

Activities:

  1. Teacher-led group activities in a classroom;
  2. Extracurricular self-study of the teacher’s assignments and tasks, including the use of educational facilities (obligatory);
  3. Tutorials.
