The course consists of the following units and topics:

1. Main definitions of modern computer technologies.

Topics. Main definitions of computer engineering and technology. Structured computer organization, technical specifications of modern computers. Classification of software. Primary areas of the use of system and applied programmes to solve transportation scheduling and control problems and transport sciences.

2. Basic elements of modern operational systems.

Topics: Definition of an operational system. Classification of modern operational systems. Basic performance capabilities of Windows OS. Structure of assistant programmes and utilities. Assurance of an efficient performance of a computer and peripheries, as well as data safety in Windows OS.

3. Solving scientific-technical problems of calculation, engineering and processing of experiments using numerical methods, programme complexes, and Excel tables.

Topics: Classification of problems of transportation facility design and transportation process parameter calculation. Overview of modern methods of transportation system research. Introduction to the experimental design theory. Statistical methods of experimental data analysis and experimental design. Features of the MatLab and MathCAD packages for solving problems of transportation facility design and transportation process parameter calculation. Features of the Statistica package for statistics processing. Solving transportation problems with numerical methods using Excel tables.

4. Mastering the system of text and graphic job processing.

Topics: Main functionability of the MS Word processor. Fundamentals of raster and vector graphic processors. Use of vector sketching and drawing processors. Basic rules and techniques to create a vector image. System of paper work standards. Study of a corporate standard of execution explanatory notes and graphic part of midterm and final projects.

5. Use of computer-based training systems.

Topics: Classification of computer-based training systems. Definition of an electronic textbook. Structure of an electronic textbook. Main features of electronic textbook development programmes. Multimedia training aids. Use of simulation modeling method and systems in the process of training. Overview of modern simulation modeling systems.
