Innovative Products of NMSTU and Exorise Enter International Market

Three models of exoskeletons having different functionality and applications were displayed at the 25th International Industrial Exhibition Metal-Expo 2019. This innovative product is the result of collaboration between RnD MGTU and Exorise.

Following an initiative of MMK’s management, Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University developed passive modular exoskeletons designed to facilitate the most labour intensive jobs in iron and steel industry, such as those of hotside doormen at coking plants and blast furnace keepers. The high-strength components made of MAGSTRONG steel and integrated in such ‘armour’ help decrease the weight borne by human joints thus producing a positive effect on human health and performance.

This product of joint development is presented in the form of three models of exoskeletons displayed at the booth of Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works. The X-SOFT model is designed to support the locomotor apparatus, e.g. when one has to do a lot of bending and weight lifting. The Х-ARM model has a ‘third arm’ which carries the main load relieving a person of the need to hold a heavy piece of tooling. And the very latest model – Х-RISE – is designed to support personnel of assembly lines and construction industry as it aims to relieve a person’s arms which are held raised throughout the work shift.

According to the developers, the models excited great interest among the Expo’s participants and visitors.

“A few major companies have already expressed their interest in giving a trial to our passive modular exoskeletons. They include Rosatom, Evraz, Gazpromneft, Severstal and the car maker Renault. The X-ARM and X-RISE have gained special popularity,” said Dmitry Kopylov, director at Exorise LLC, a maker and integrator of exoskeletons.

The participants of Metal-Expo 2019 include 570 companies from 34 countries, who are exhibiting the entire variety of products supplied by ferrous and non-ferrous metal industries, as well as state-of-the-art equipment and innovative technology.
