Thermal Power Engineering and Thermal Technology

Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University and the Institute of Power Engineering within its structure offer a master's degree program in Engineering and Technology in the field of Heat and Power Engineering.

Every day, all industrial enterprises and citizens need light and heat, gas and hot water, air and electricity. All these energy sources are produced by industrial heat and power systems and they are the main professional objects of study.

The speciality "Power System" is extremely scarce, and annually enterprises demand exceeds the number of highly qualified specialists, prepared by thermal energy systems departments.

The program in the department covers many topics that will help develop the concepts of techniques and technologies of energy conversion in the modern world.

During the training, students learn the theoretical basis of heat, electric and other types of energy conversion, main power equipment of plants and industrial enterprises.

Master’s Degree professional objects of study focus on the systems of heat - energy and industrial enterprises, thermal, electrical, and other networks, energy - using equipment, including heating, refrigerating and cryogenic.

Furthermore, the students explore ways to generate energy by wind turbines, solar cells, geothermal sources, using tidal energy and biofuels.

The program aims at providing students with various professional activities, such as:

  1. design and engineering;
  2. production and engineering;
  3. operational;
  4. research;
  5. installation and commissioning;
  6. organization and management.

Education Program Structure:

The course lasts two years (4 terms).

The first and second semesters include subjects, extending knowledge of heat power-energy techniques and technologies.The first semester of study also includes the core subject of the energy heat technologies course.

The third semester includes work experience.

During the third and fourth semesters students are involved in creative scientific seminar on individual topics, preparing graduate thesis.

Admission Requirements

Applicants to a Master's Degree in Engineering and Technology in the field of Heat and Power Engineering program should hold a Bachelor's degree in a related subject, scientific publications (preferred), professional experience (desirable).
